We travel quite a bit- and not only to Disney, although any Disney Park is among our favorite destinations. We are asked one question more often than others, however, by our friends and family- why on earth do we drive everywhere rather than fly?

Let me take a moment to answer that. First of all, we do fly. Unfortunately we can not drive over the ocean (although I would cruise anywhere!). We have flown when we absolutely must get to our destination in a rush, such as in an emergency or when we need to take some serious time off of a trip. We simply choose not to whenever we can, especially when we are traveling with our daughters or other special folks.

We have learned that it is the journey, not the destination, that really holds magic. More memories are made when you are driving to new places for many hours in a vehicle with your loved ones than can be made in a short flight. I am often told that our family is a rarity these days because we are all so close knit. I have no doubt that all of our family road trips over the years contributed to that closeness. My girls are amazing, and getting older- I would redo any single one of our car drives, for time is fleeting and waits for no one.

The next time you need to take a trip, try to budget some extra time and drive with your own family. Put the electronics away and make up travel games to laugh together. You never know what you may see! Yes, it is possible to spend hours with your kids in the car- and one day, you will be thankful for the opportunity.
